5th World Youth ARDF Championship

DSC 0124This year the 5th World Youth ARDF Championship was held in Városlőd from 26-29 June, where close to a hundred competitors participated from eleven countries from three continents.

The organising team started the initial preparations in September last year. The selection of the perfect terrain is the foundation of a good race, but the arraging of maps, presents and free time activities were just as important.

The participants arrived on 26 June to Iglauer Park, the accommodation and event centre for the week.

The opening ceremony was hosted by the local village hall where dr. Szabó László Zsolt said a few words as the representative of the Hungarian National Media Council.

On the first competition day the young people competed on classic 2m in the forest near Városlőd, where they got lucky with the weather, as it only started raining once the last competitors were in the finish.

The Sprint was the second event, which was set up in the Sobri Adventure Park nearby. The contestants did really well, but their motivation to be fast was understandable, as after finishing they were greeted with a delicious meal and a wristband which allowed them to use almost all the games in the park. So for the afternoon the kids put aside all rivalry and swam and played together.

Thursday was the day of the classic 80m competition and the last day of the championship. The youngsters were looking for the foxes in blazing sunshine on the other side of the terrain from the first day. Although their tiredness was visible, they all still ran heroically and achieved great results.

HG5KID in action again

20220308 220348We've finally past the exam period, a little covid, spring is about to arrive and luckily the kids have found the VFO button on the TRXs in addition to the ARDF receivers.

Unfortunately, we missed the Women's Day activity due to family programs, but HA5NP Robi just recommended the German-organized competition, which we tried last year.

HA7MA Marton undertook to handle the deep connection between our ever-expanding linden tree and the 80m inverted-V with a saw on the afternoon of the event, so the crew was already able to meet the evening challenges with more favorable conditions. 20220308 174955As in the previous year, this year's competition was welcomed by the participants, the three young ladies - HA7GR Emma, HA7DR Dora and HA7RA Anna - ended the day with 180 QSOs at the usual QTH in Biatorbágy, while a few pizzas got eaten up.

Thanks to my friends of the radio orienteering, after the women's day activity, the adventures continued at the open-air school in the area of Környebánya for a long weekend. Here we changed the callsign to HG8ARDF for a short time and aired out the mobile rack of last year's Paks camp a bit, and at the same time cut to size and entered the freshly manufactured LW antenna made by HA8BE Bela OM - just so we prepared it to be used for HA8ZG Pista OM. The camp went well, as you can read in HA2QW Lali's last report, and on the afternoon of the closing day, after a quick camp break-up and a trip home, another local contest was waiting for the children, organized by HA3IN Norbert OM.20220315 15240120220315 145025

The VHF round was undertaken by Anna HA7RA and Marci HA7MA, and Dóra HA7DR also entered the shortwave part. Despite the kids being tired by the 4-day training camp, they managed the pace quite well, they only switched from Hungarian to English a few times, but this was well tolerated by the stations. We got the most out of the contest with the slightly exhausted crew, the logs were also uploaded.

The ball is with me again now, due to the start of the upper short wave bands, it is timely to support the antenna park with two Yagi waiting to be renovated in the garage so that the kids can own a couple of DXs during the spring and summer period.

HG5KID call sign started

Written by HA2UF. Posted in News

The HG5Kid call sign started its career at the end of July 2021. when the Hungarian Radio Amateur Association organized a summer camp in the framework of the replenishment training. A RIG was installed at the camp, the children had the chance to take their first steps with the help of radio amateurs who had represented HA and HG prefixes for many local and international contests over many decades. Following the summer program, the participating children took a successful amateur exam and have been pursuing this sport enthusiasticlyever since. Many of them are also competing for radio country lines.
Our site aims to present the activity of this enthusiastic community and to arouse the interest of more children and young people in this great sport.
